CHECK BEFORE DEPARTURE

September changes the plan.

These are research notes for September 17–21, 2026, not live closure monitoring. Recheck the official source on the day.

Lake Louise & Moraine Lake

Moraine Lake Road is closed to personal vehicles. Reserve the correct shuttle; Parks Canada boards at the ski resort Park & Ride on Whitehorn Road. Lake Louise’s lakeshore lot costs $42/day in this season and can fill by sunrise. Arriving early is not a reliable substitute for a transport reservation.

Roam 8X goes to Lake Louise lakeshore, not the ski resort. Lake Connector eligibility requires the reserved round-trip Super Pass or a Parks Canada ticket. Confirm the ticket conditions and last return.

Closures that matter this week

Parking & passes

The summer free-entry period ended September 7; normal park fees apply during these dates. A park pass does not pay for municipal Banff parking, Lake Louise lakeshore parking or attraction tickets.

Banff downtown paid parking is 8 am–8 pm and $12/hour in this season. The train station, Bow Avenue and upper Bear Street parkade offer designated free parking for up to nine hours. Signs and current maintenance restrictions take priority.

The Parkway is a journey

Banff to Jasper is roughly four or more hours each way before sightseeing, road delays or weather. Fuel up, carry food and water, and download route information before leaving signal. This guide does not offer offline maps. September alpine trails can be icy or snowy even when town is mild.
